Original Bronze Holderist Xermiltoth

The base coat of this dragon's hide is a deep, dark bronze. Clearly, he was left in the oven a bit too long since it's hard to tell that he's a bronze at all until the light catches him just right and then he glows with the polished gleam of copper. A faint, jagged crickle-crack of brassy gold starts at the midpoint of his finely arched neck and grows brighter and brighter across his middle before fading again down his legs and finely boned tail. The dorsal side of his wingsails are copper and brass speckled brown, fading to the color of rich loam along the trailing edges. In sharp juxtaposition, the undersides of his wingsails are a bright harlequin of obscure bronze hues in red, blue, and green, shaped into diamonds spliced apart by white, black, and brass lines that start strong along the wingbone, then fade to that same loamy brown. One might almost call his sharp features aquiline, if the term were applied to dragons, and deep blue speckles his lower jaw and up over his headknobs, which end in jagged flares of gold, like antlers painted upon his hide. His neck and backridges are unusually rounded, more like buttons than ridges, really, and seemingly painted a pure brass to counteract the darkness of his hide. Even in his youth, his firm muscle definition is obvious and his strength pronounced beneath his shimmering hide.

Egg Name and Description

A Sign of Egg-ffection
Pink. Pink pink pink pink pink. This lumpy orb is covered in a solid, uniform coat of pale pink. If it weren't for a few other distinct features, it would be painfully, perfectly pink. Two perfect circles of a deeper, ruddier tone stand at precise opposite sides of the egg, delineated all the more by a perfectly crisp black outline. Directly between them, and a little lower a lumpy, oblong shape of moderate flesh tone with a thin black line, double-arched like a child's drawing of a crow in flight. Opposite that, the surface is lumped in two lobes, one atop the other, and from between them a wisp of golden smoke emerges, rising to the top of the egg before dissipating away.

Hatching Message

Wobble: A Sign of Egg-ffection wobbles precariously on it's narrowest axis, shifting violently enough that it tosses sand in every direction, then stills again. Nothing to see here.

Crack: A Sign of Egg-ffection gives a giant shudder, cracking in a perfect spinner-web across the top lobe of it's misshapen side and within the crack glows a steady pulse of golden light. Gold. Black. Gold. Black. Gold. Black.

Hatch: A Sign of Egg-ffection continues to pulse. Gold. Black. Gold. Black. GOLD! GOLD! GOLD! POP!!! Shards scatter everywhere, spilling its occupant onto the sands.

Impression Message

In an instant is a flash of brilliant green-red eyes, then nothing but gold and silence wrapping around you like so much silk. Diamonds of color flicker at the edge of your vision, but every time you turn to try to see them, they move as well. Perhaps you fainted on the sands?

But, no, the heat of the sands is gone, as is the chaos of the stands. All there is now is that golden light… until the silence is broken by dark laughter that echoes off itself, redoubling and redoubling until your entire skull is shaking before it fades out, becoming words at last, « HAD YOU GOING, DIDN'T I? » This voice is neither quite nor calm, but then, again, neither was the egg he sprang from. « I GOT YOU! I GOT YOU! » The golden light grows brighter and brighter, then suddenly dims, « BUT, STILL. I AM HUNGRY, AND, WELL, WE HAVE THINGS TO DO. » That silky sensation wraps itself about you, pulling you into a mind-to-mind contact that feels almost like you're two people at once, both you and your dragon, « MY NAME IS XERMILTOTH, BY THE WAY. COME, R'HYN, IT'S TIME TO GET ME DINNER. THEN WE WILL HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING FUN TO DO! »

Personality

Xermiltoth's mindvoice will always be loud, but in his first few months (or more) this will be a drastic challenge. His mindvoice is larger than life and he'll struggle not to share it with everyone. Everyone. Especially when he's excited, and early on everything will excite him. Trundlebug? « R'HYN! R'HYN! LOOK AT THIS BUG! IT'S SO AMAZING! » followed by « FARANTH, IT SMELLS SO BAD! GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF! » It will be up to R'hyn to teach him, maybe even force him, to learn to keep his voice to just them, and it will depend on them both whether or not he'll ever fully succeed.

“I will not equivocate on my opinion—I have always worn it on my sleeve.” -Hamilton

Dr. Benjamin Franklin: [to Dr. Hall] What are you staring at? Haven't you ever seen a great man before?

Hopkins: Ah, Ben! I want you to see some cards I'd gone and had printed up. Oughta save everybody here a lot of time and effort, considering the epidemic of bad disposition that's been going on around here lately. "Dear Sir, you are without any doubt, a rogue, a rascal, a villain, a thief, a scoundrel, and a mean, dirty, stinking, sniveling, sneaking, pimping, pocket-picking, thrice double-damned no-good son of a bitch." and you sign your name - what do you think?
Dr. Benjamin Franklin: I'll take a dozen, right now.

Speaking for Xermiltoth's mindvoice, not only will he be loud, he has no tact to speak of. If he thinks Emi's clothing is ugly, he'll say it. If he thinks something J'en has said is stupid? Oh, by Faranth you'll all know about it. Is he worried about how someone treats their weyrmate? The whole Weyr will know. And to only exacerbate the issue, he is also quite fond of himself. After all, since he sees and says the truth, he is the best dragon in the class, hands down. The best of all dragons, even, perhaps. He doesn't necessarily think he's better, but he does feel that his truth is better than other dragons' tact.

While he won't ever be strictly fastidious, he won't be messy, either. And he'll always love a good bath, especially if you remember to scrub between his headknobs, an area that will always be particularly itchy. Especially in his first month it will require nearly constant oiling, and as he ages it will still require more than any of the rest of him.

“What are you waiting for? What do you stall for?” -Hamilton

“We gotta go, gotta get the job done, gotta start a new nation, gotta meet my son!” —Hamilton,

Early in his life, he will sleep longer and more than most dragons, but those moments he's awake he will expect to be entirely productive. There had better be games and baths and workouts. If R'hyn isn't entertaining him during his waking hours, he'll entertain himself, and Faranth help the Weyr. As he ages, he'll start keeping a more normal schedule, but he'll never lose his urge to be productive all the time, though with time he may come to understand that even if he doesn't need downtime, R'hyn does.

Abigail: Have you forgotten what you used to say to me, I haven't. Commitment, Abby, commitment. There are only two creatures of value on the face of this earth - those with a commitment and those who require the commitment of others. Do you remember John?

He will approach everything he does with a fiery passion. If he decides that he's going to catch Lychenth, but Faranth, he's going to catch Lychenth. He'll follow her as her time draws near, trying to woo her before she even takes to the skies. The same if he takes a shine to Valigath. If he decides to protect someone, that person may be the safest person in the world.

While he won't necessarily strive for leadership specifically, he will be driven to make things the best he can. He doesn't want to work in a dictatorship, after all. And, more than anything, he wants to keep his people safe. Especially in his younger, more impulsive years, if he isn't riding sweeps and saving the day, every day, he's going to feel like he's not doing enough. Especially if others are getting hurt.

The last thing that truly makes Xermiltoth Xermiltoth is his sense of humor. It's horrible and punny and unfiltered. As he grows older, R'hyn may teach him to keep his jokes to just them, at least, but it's bound to lead to moments where Xermiltoth is making hilarious and irreverent comments while R'hyn is trying to be stern, serious, or set an example.

When it comes to flights, he chases green and gold and equal passion. Truth be told, he'd probably chase the boys, too, if they rose, just so no one feels unloved. He's more of a romantic in the lead up and the flight than the next morning, though. He desperately wants to be a good partner and parent, but other duties always pull his attention away. As a clutch sire, he'll be constantly torn between standing on the sands and tending his mate and taking to the sky to protect his Weyr.

Humor Quotes

Dr. Benjamin Franklin: Please Mr. Dickinson, but must you start banging? How is a man to sleep?
[laughter from Congress]
John Dickinson: Forgive me, Dr. Franklin, but must YOU start speaking? How is a man to stay awake?
[More laughter]
John Dickinson: We'll promise to be quiet - I'm sure everyone prefers that you remained asleep.
Dr. Benjamin Franklin: If I'm to hear myself called an Englishman, sir, I assure you I prefer I'd remained asleep.
John Dickinson: What's so terrible about being called an Englishman? The English don't seem to mind.
Dr. Benjamin Franklin: Nor would I, were I given the full rights of an Englishman. But to call me one without those rights is like calling an ox a bull. He's thankful for the honor, but he'd much rather have restored what's rightfully his.
[laughter]
John Dickinson: When did you first notice they were missing, sir?
[laughter]

Dr. Benjamin Franklin: A rebellion is always legal in the first person, such as "our rebellion." It is only in the third person - "their rebellion" - that it becomes illegal.

Richard Henry Lee: Therefore I must decline. Respectful…"lee".

John Adams: [reading a note tossed down from Jefferson] "Dear Mr. Adams, I am taking my wife back to bed. Kindly go away. Your obedient, T. Jefferson." Incredible!
Dr. Benjamin Franklin: [chuckles] You know, perhaps I should have written the Declaration. At my age there's little doubt that the pen is mightier than the sword.

Mindvoice

Sonorous Brightness

Bright bright BRIGHT! It's like bathing in golden sunlight, though other colors flicker at the edges depending on Xermiltoth's mood, often matching the color of his eyes, but always as flashing diamonds or black and white lightning against that ordered gold. Always his actual voice echoes deep and bright. There is almost no olfactory component, just a hint of brandy beneath the brightness.

Inspiration

WELCOME TO HELL! Er, I mean Half Mooner Weyrlinghood. We've truly loved having you as a candidate and look forward to many more laughs, horrors, and amusements through your weyrlinghood and beyond.

The theme for the eggs was life and love and the Sign of Egg-ffection was inspired by Pokemon (because I'm a nerd), specifically the egg itself was based on Luvdisc (http://pokemondb.net/pokedex/luvdisc), the pokemon of true love and rendezvous, and the mind voice was inspired by Xerneas (http://pokemondb.net/pokedex/xerneas), the legendary pokemon of eternal life and rebirth.

The theme for the dragons is joys and passions, so when it came time to start building your dragon, I was so ecstatic to read your passions and find ways to merge them with mine. At the highest level, Xermiltoth is inspired by three things: Xerneas, your historical musical love (Hamilton), and my related historical musical love (1776). I haven't actually gotten to see Hamilton, so I hope my googling can do it justice.

Xermiltoth's name comes from a combination of Xerneas and Hamilton. I really, really wanted to come up with a great pun for his hatchling title, but it just wouldn't come to me, so I went with something punish. Alexander Hamilton wrote The Original Federalist Case for the Constitution as well as the federalist papers. In order to make Federalist Perny, I adapted it to Holderist. Sadly, it's ABsolutely the best pun I could come up with for this.
