Picking up a packed lunch

Western Weyr - Living Caverns
Here is the center of Weyr life, the living caverns. These two main rooms were man-shaped from smaller caves, and are joined by a carved arch with depictions of dragons in flight and dolphins leaping in swirling waves. One room has many round stone and wooden tables and a stone fire-pit instead of a hearth. Over the round-walled, gas fired pit is a large conical hood made of polished bronze, with reliefs of dragons with their riders flying over ships guided by dolphins. This hood and chimney keeps the room smoke-free. Through the archway is an enormous hall, with long tables and benches, some carved from the rock floor, many crafted of wood. This room is a combination dining and meeting hall, and can seat over 300 comfortably. Above both rooms, angled shafts lined with polished metal bring in sunlight during the day. Electric lights also burn, day and night.

Late morning finds the living caverns bustling with preparations for the mid-day meal. The dining hall may not be filled with occupants just yet but on the tables, traditional breakfast items have been replaced with more summery lunch fares. Among the various kitchen staff is Idris, delivering freshly baked desserts and setting them out in a pleasing array on one table.

It's no longer unusual to see Jeyinshi walking into the caverns with damp hair and a towel in hand. And her state today is no exception. She wears an oversized shirt, the tie of her bathing suit just visible near her neck, and a pair of shorts. The faint smell of salt-water follows in her wake as the dolphineer heads towards the tables. Spotting one of the kitchen staff laying out deserts, Jey reaches out to tap the girl on the shoulder. "Hey. Do you Taki or Luna? Are they working in the kitchens today?"

Nose wrinkling as the salt-water scent interrupts the sweetness of the bubblies she was just setting up, Idris turns to smile at Jeyinshi. "Ah… maybe? to be honest I've been stuck in bubbly land all morning, I'm not sure who else is working. I can check in a moment, this is my last tray to set before some of us have to take our lunch." Idris moves the last few bubblies off her tray and wipes hands on her apron. "Do you want one of them to come out if they're here?"

Jeyinshi offers up a cool smile in return and brushes a hand through her hair. "Well that's not a particularly bad land to be stuck in. They certainly smell good. If I wasn't about to go swim again, I'd be all over them." The dolphineer shoots a wistful look at the bubblies before turning back to the other girl, "If you would I'd really appreciate it. One of them usually packs lunch and dinner for me, wanted to see if they had today. They don't really have to come out, but maybe a drudge can deliver anything they've made to me?"
Idris laughs, "No, it isn't, I do love my sweets. I'll go check for you, kay? Just hang tight a minute." She disappears into the kitchen and emerges a couple minutes later with a packed lunch in hand. "Luna was there, she had you covered. Check that, let me know if you need anything added?"

Jeyinshi leans on the tables and nods after the disappearing kitchen girl. When Idris emerges, the dolphineer smiles, gingerly taking the package from her and doing a quick scan of the contents. "Thanks. You saved me some serious time." Jey raises a hand in a small wave and begins heading back out towards the lagoon. Before she's gone too far however, the dolphineer turns, looking back at the girl. "I'm Jeyinshi by the way. You'll probably be seeing more of me, so don't forget the name, yeah?" Her mouth twists up in another smile and she winks.

"Oh yeah? Gonna raid the kitchen?" Idris calls after her. "I'm Idris- don't you forget that either! Everyone will know my name someday!" For her bubblies, that is. Grinning, Idris shakes her head with amusement and heads back to the kitchen to check out and have her own lunch.
