From Flight to... Flight?!

Western Weyr - Weyrling Training Field
Near the tall black eastern wall of the crater is a cleared field. The earth there has been churned many times over by the landings and take offs of young dragons and only a few patches of grass cling to life in this active area. Wooden props and markers used to assist the weyrlings as they learn the precise manuvers required for the rescue and protection work that Western Weyr is famous for, litter the training field. Close to the rimwall, in the east where the sun is usually shaded is a large wooden slat barracks for the weyrlings to live in. Tropical trees and shrubs have been allowed to grow here, perfuming the air with a floral scent.

The training fields are bathed in light from the bulbs that surrounds them, while beyond the electric sphere the night is in full bloom, inky dark and star-studded where it arches across the world. Rou'x and Indianath are getting in some late night training, by the looks of things: she's standing directing him through his wing exercises, by demonstrating them herself and having him follow along. The big brown's impressive wingspan causes eddies of wind to blow by Rou'x when he does certain moves, ruffling her long, braided dark hair.

With the new baby around Zi'on's schedule has been a bit out of whack. Though the bronzer was generally a night owl anyways. It is rare though that Suldith joins him in any late night activities. Though tonight the pair are flying up overhead with another larger shadow of a dragon. Likely Miraneith, as the senior gold was known to be on the prowl at night. There's a bit of looping, then the larger of the two flies off and Suldith dips down over the training field when they spot one of the weyrling dragons stretching out. They zip past overheard, as if issuing an unheard challenge to the brown and his rider. Come on, stretching time is over!

And Indy's straps are in place, so why not? Rou'x's been practicing mounting up and does so smoothly, if not /quite/ as fast as she should, buckling herself in and checking one last time with her lifemate to see if he's as ready as she is. His eager confirmation is all she needs to hear - Indianath's muscles coil up and then he leaps upward, snapping out his wings at the pivotal moment and providing a powerful downthrust to gain further altitude. Once they've caught Suldith, Rou'x grins and waves at the Weyrleader, one of those big, toothy, lopsided smiles that just about sums up her excitement.

Zi'on and Suldith slow their pace a bit so Indy can get up off the ground to join them. He was still learning, and Suldith is an old pro. Once they're close by Zi'on gives Rou a salute, then laughs a bit. Then Suldith's wings start to pump and they start to climb up and up and up over the bowl. Zi'on isn't sure of Rou and Indy's skill at this point, so he stops the bronze from going too too high, instead the head into a slow circle around the rim. Then suddenly Suldith takes a sharp left turn and dives down into the bowl a ways, spiraling a bit, before more flapping as they rise again. But they're going much faster now!

If there's one thing to be said about this particular pairing, they're keen to try /anything/. With Indianath being just a hair's length shorter than Suldith he doesn't find it too difficult to keep up, not when they're just flying straight and up, anyway. It's when the bronze kicks into acrobatic mode that the brown pair stop, Indy's wings beating steadily as both he and Rou'x watch the Weyrleader's dragon. Then he too enters a tight spiral, flaring out his wings at the last opportunity to catch the wind and rise again chasing after Zi'on and his lifemate.

Extreme dragonriding! That was would Zi'on would do if it were a thing. Also if he weren't weyrleader and wasn't a father of two kids. It isn't often that him and Suldith gets to just go out and fly for a while. And with company even less so. Once the spiral is over Suldith is climbing again. Then suddenly he makes a U-turn, heading back in the opposite direction and straight towards the brown pair. Yes, this is air chicken. And Suldith will dip down or change directions at the last second, then tuck his wings in to spiral downwards again.

Indianath and Rou'x hold their ground as Suldith comes towards them, so it's just as well the bronze banks off when he does! There's a triumphant sort of sound from the brown as he calls after the Weyrleader and his dragon, dipping down and falling into a spiral that mimics that of the other flying pair. They're not afraid to push their limits and there's nothing stopping Indiana as he turns away with as much flexibility as a dragon his size can have, winging his way towards the sea.

Suldith swoops down and then banks to the right and upward. Then he spots the brown heading off seawards, and takes off after him. At least with the larger dragons they didn't tire as quickly, and so play time can go on longer. Though Suldith seems to have relaxed a bit, and he falls into formation next to Indy, matching the brown's pace and giving him a friendly warble. There was a reason why Zi'on never tried his hand at being a weyrlingmaster, and it's mostly because Suldith is too quick to play instead of instruct.

Playtime is good! Rou'x is laughing atop her lifemate's back as Indianath ducks and dives towards the water, pulling up just metres above the surface, so that every downstroke of his wings skims the waves below. He's not used to so many acrobatics though and he's starting to slow a little, the beginnings of tiredness just beginning to creep into his young body. Atop his back, Rou'x signals over to Zi'on that they're going back, while Indy passes the message on to Suldith in a voice that's as exciting as a jungle adventure, laced with tropical blooms. «Mine says it is time to go back.»

Zi'on is grinning away, as usual. Suldith doesn't quite put his wingtips in the water, but he does descend down to the water with the brown. Suldith doesn't seem any worse for the wear, even after all the acrobatics. But then he was used to participating in flights, and was an old hat at this flying thing. Zi'on nods to Rou, and Suldith pulls around to follow the brown. Indy gets a response in a purposeful sounding tenor. « Alright. We will follow you. » They remain behind the weyrling pair, likely on Zi'on's orders and all.

Indianath shows good form as he flies back towards the weyrling grounds - at least until it comes time for him to land. He's still not the world's best at getting back to earth but there's always the hopes that it will get better with practice! Once he's finished stumbling Rou'x slips down from his back, unbuckling his straps while waiting to see if the Weyrleader will come and join them. Her lifemate's having a little trouble being still enough to let her finish up, though. "Calm down, Indy. You've gotta stay /still/, yeah? Gotta get these off've you so's we can go sleep!"

Suldith does in fact touch down after Indianath does. He's a bit more graceful about it, which Zi'on is thankful for. A hard bump to the ground is never a fun thing. Zi'on slides to the ground as well, removing Suldith's straps and folding and tying them up neatly into a little bundle. The bronzer heads towards where Rou is trying to keep Indy calm. "What's got his spurs jinglin' and janglin'?" Zi'on asks her with a blink. "He doesn't want to fly -more- does he? He'll wear himself right out."

Rou'x finally manages to free the last buckle, and she's barely got time to say anything before Indianath's off! He takes to the air again, over towards the bowl. "I…" Confused, the weyrling girl rubs at her forehead with the heel of her hand, then looks to the Weyrleader. "… dunno, sir, he's… he's all… all whassat word? Frac-something? All like fractionsy or whatever. Like…" She shakes her head and shrugs her shoulders, unable to explain it properly. "'S'hard to describe."

Zi'on looks pretty surprised when Indy takes off again. "Whoa!" Suldith waddles over, and calls out to the brown mentally a few times to try and figure out what he's up to. Zi'on moves over to put a hand of Rou's shoulder, in case she goes to pass out or something crazy. "Eh? Fractionsy? What do you mean? Where's he going?" Suldith warbles a bit, flaring his wings. The bronze doesn't know whether to stay or go right now. Maybe Indy had to go number two and didn't want to do it here? It could happen! Probably not though, given Rou's reaction.

"He's gone… t'the… pens?" Rou'x rubs again at her forehead beneath her heavy dark bangs, shaking her head. Then it seems to all fall into place for her, and she looks at the Weyrleader with her honey-coloured eyes huge. "Sir… he's gonna go after Piath, she's going up n' he's… he's /blooding/." She's been in a Weyr long enough to know what that means, but this is all just very, very confusing for Rou'x! "I dunno what to do, sir!"

Zi'on blinks. "What's he want a snack or something?" The message doesn't click for Zi'on, after all, Suldith was right here. Though the bronze is distracted by his rider and the stressed rider of the brown. "What? He's not ready for that!" Zi'on laughs a bit. "Well, call him back!" But if the brown is blooding already it's likely a futile effort. "He won't get far regardless, not after all that flying we just did. I guess.. just keep trying to call him back. Then get ready to go take a cold shower." Zi'on lets Suldith go. Greenflight? How fun!

Whatever's going on in the mental link between Rou'x and Indianath has her frowning, her eyes scrunched shut in concentration. "Can't sir, can't get him back, he's all…" Her hands come up and gesture flailingly. "He's all like that, y'know? An' /hot/… s'all messed up in there!" She wraps her arms around her waist, shaking her head and biting down on her lip. "Sir… he's…" Up, after the green. Rou'x doesn't know quite what to do with herself so she hugs her arms tighter, eyes scrunched shut even more.

Zi'on frowns at Rou. What's with her dragon, going up after a green before he's really ready!? "Maybe I ought to go find a weyrlingmaster…" They'd know what to do, right? Because Zi'on doesn't. Also his dragon is chasing now, too. "Yeah, I know. You get used to that sort of feeling. Come over here and sit with me, Rou. There's nothing we can really do about it now. Just gotta try to stay relaxed and… let it play out." Zi'on tries to push or pull Rou to an out-of-the-way spot where they can sit without being disturbed for a little while.

Rou'x's easily manipulated, because she's so distracted… and embarrassed, too. She sits heavily in their chosen spot, drawing her knees up to her chest and hugging them there. "Sir… sorry, sir…. if I'd've known I woulda…" Done /something/, but she doesn't know what that /something/ should have or would have been, because thinking isn't the easiest thing with her other half in such a frenzy. Part of her's thankful and but a whole lot more of her's disappointed when she can feel her lifemate starting to tire too soon. "He's too tired, I think he's near givin' up."

At least Rou wouldn't attract attention off in their little alcove for the time being. Behind some bushes off to the side of the weyrling field is where they end up taking a seat. Zi'on sits next to Rou and wraps an arm around her shoulders, trying to be comforting, but looking a bit awkward. "You can call me Zi'on you know, Rou. It ain't like we're not friends…" He shrugs a bit to her. "Sometimes there ain't much you can do." He frowns as she says Indy's already tiring. Though it wasn't like he expected much else. "Ah. Well, just call him back. He's not ready anyways, there'll be other chances a little later. Lots of other chances."

Rou'x leans against Zi, his attempt to give comfort somewhat successful. The disappointment she's feeling through Indianath makes her sniffle a little, and she rubs at one of her eyes with the heel of her hand. "He wanted t'go, sir — Zi'on." The big brown comes in for one of his trademark crashlandings in the training field, furling his wings to his side and looking somewhat sheepish. Rou'x sits up, peering through the bushes at her lifemate. ""Mebbe if you'd not come and we'd not been flying, he would've finished?"

Zi'on rubs his own face with his free hand. "Of course he wanted to go. All male dragons want to go when a female goes up. Once they hit a certain age, at least." The bronzer watches Indy crash land. "Maybe he would have finished. I don't know." The bronzer shrugs. "Or maybe he's not ready yet. Wait, you -wanted- him to finish? Trust me, it's better this way for now." Zi'on pats her back, then gets up. He chuckles a bit. "At least we know he's got a libido that works. Like rider like dragon, eh?" Zi'on teases, hoping to lighten the mood a bit. Or maybe just to be a jerk. "Well, I ought to go find the rider of that green out there before the flight finishes."

"And I need to go see Indy." Rou'x's looking as sheepish as her dragon is, but she still throws her arms around Zi'on in a quick squeeze of a hug. "Thanks, Zi'on. Sorry t've kept y'here." Her accent comes back a little thicker with her disappointment, and she loosens her arms from around the Weyrleader to turn around and trot to her lifemate. Indy croons down at her as she approaches, and Rou'x wraps her arms around his muzzle in silent comfort.
