A Florist At Western

Western Weyr - Tiki Lounge
The room seems far bigger inside than outside, even when full of relaxing weyrfolk and travelers. Towards the front, in the western corner, is a small stage, providing the intoxicated or just plain brave a chance to display their talents. Several tables with chairs decorate the floor and a small area is open for dancing. The bar is rather long and well stocked, glasses of different shapes and sizes hanging suspended from a rack above the bar. Behind the bar is another open window that gives one a view of the forest behind the tavern. Turning around, one is greeted by a lovely view of the lagoon. A decent breeze helps to cool the room. Up above, rafters provide a perch for fire lizards and local avians. The thatch roof, made of straw, rarely lets in any rain.

It's a rather sunny day in Western weyr, Rukbat is shining, the weather is warm, and it's a perfect day to sit around and do nothing. Well, if you're the type to do nothing that is. With the new shop opening in Ierne, Tsenik has been doing a lot of traveling in an attempt to promote it. He's seen carrying a couple of pamphlets under his arm as he walks into the tiki lounge, handing them out to people who seem interested.

Areia is seated at the bar, chatting with the bartender about, well, something. "She's due any day now." She says with excitement, pausing to take a sip of the red-colored drink in front of her. "We've been waiting -forever-." Hands are motioning dramatically. "I mean, I know these things take time, but come on." Above her, a blue and brown firelizard wink in and swoop down, one landing on each of the woman's shoulders. "Ugh, go away." She says with annoyance, flapping her hand at the brown.

After making one last round in the bar, Tsenik slides up to an empty chair and leans back idly, wrapping his arms behind his head as he listens to the talk around him. "What's due any day now?" The conversation has piqued his curiosity.

Areia glances sideways at this new person, looking him up and down before answering. "A runner." She replies. "One of our prized ones, actually. We're all excited to see what she produces." She takes another sip of her drink, then turns to Tsenik. "You new here? I don't think we've met."

Tsenik blinks, "Oh! A runner! How exciting," Tsenik grins widely as he wraps his arms about his waist, fiddling with the bracelet on his wrist. "That's always exciting, when a baby is being born." Tsen chuckles quietly, "Nope, I'm not really from here, I'm from Ierne, well, I was from Xanadu weyr before that, and Blue River Hold before that. I'm Tsenik, nice to meet you. I own a shop down at Ierne."

"Especially when that baby is from the cream of the crop." Areia nods. "Now she just needs to, you know, -have- it." She heaves a sigh, then shakes her head a little. "Ah well. Ierne, hm? Never been there. I'm Areia." A hand is offered to shake before she continues. "What brings you to Western, Tsenik?"

"That must be exciting, I don't know much about runners, unfortuantly, besides that their manure makes good fertilizers." Tsenik laughs loudly and shrugs, "Yup, I just set up a shop down there, hoping the move'll pay off so I can sell my flowers." Tsenik shakes Areia's hand in a gentle manner, grinning. "Well, promoting my shop, seeing what grows around here, and meeting new people."

Areia chuckles. "Well, then we're even - I don't know much about flowers, other than they're pretty." She takes her hand back and wraps it back around her glass, which is getting empty. She frowns at it before glancing back at the man. "Can I buy you a drink, Tsenik? That is, if you're going to hang around for a bit. Or do you have to get back to Ierne?"

"Sure, if you'd like to buy me a drink, be my guest, but you needn't bother. It should be I who is buying you the drink." Tsen laughs quietly and turns towards the bartender, "I'm not going back for a while yet, so I'm not in any rush. I'd just stick myself behind the counter again, and Faranth knows I need to stop thinking about business every so often."

Areia waves towards the bartender, who makes his way over. "One more-" She motions to her own drink, "And whatever my friend here wants, on me." She grins at Tsenik, shrugging. "I've got nothing else to spend marks on, so why not." She leans on the bar, propping her chin on her hand. "We all need a break. I traded a shift just to get a day off. But shh, don't tell the stablemaster."

Tsenik laughs loudly and offers a sly wink, lowering his voice as he speaks. "Oh, you are bad, aren't you?" Tsen chuckles as he turns towards the bartender placing his own order. "Well, most of my marks are going towards maintaning my shop at the moment, so I can't excactly spare a whole lot until it takes off. You wouldn't believe how much it costs for delivery services." Tsenik wrinkles his nose slightly. "See, I make my own hours, I come and go as I please."

Areia grins widely and winks back. "Naughty me." She agrees, then laughs. The bartender comes back with drinks and she switches her glass out, thanking him. "In my defense, it's been a very, very long time since i've had a day off… no on-call, no 'hey we need you right now!', but totally off. It would be nice to make my own hours but with animals, well… they have their own schedules."

Tsenik nods his head as he listens, thanking the bartender as the man delivers his drink. He takes a moment to take a sip from the glass, his eyes trained on Areia as she talks. "Mostly my schedule is: tend to the flowers in the morning, check the greenhouse, man the shop, lunch, man the shop, then go home. And on my off days I'm travelling trying to promote the shop. So, if you look at it, I don't really get a day off, either."

"Well you should. Take a day off, I mean. Go somewhere just to go, relax." Areia regards him until the blue firelizard on her shoulder gives a creel. It surprises her - she jumps. "Phan." She grumbles. "Go away, go fight with Shore or something." She pokes at the blue until he takes off to hide in the rafters with the bigger brown.

Tsenik lets out a quiet sigh as he closes his eyes, "I wish I could, right now I'm not in a good spot to go galavanting off and take a day off. I mean, if I take a true day off, I'm losing marks that I need to keep the shop running. And if the shop isn't running, I'll go out of business." Tsenik wrinkles his nose softly, "As much as I love my shop, I'm kinda tied to it." And then he's blinking as the creel suddenly is heard from her shoulder, "Oh, you have firelizards, y'know, I make firelizard oil that's scented." See? Ever the businessman.

Areia brushes her shoulder as if to remove firelizard traces. "Hence why I never want to own my own business." She replies firmly. "I couldn't live like that. I mean, I'm tied to the stables, but not that way. I don't worry about where my wages come from as long as they keep coming." She grins… until the topic of firelizards is broached. She sighs and rubs at her forehead with one hand. "Yes, two of them, and they absolutely despise each other." She glares up at the 'lizards in question. "Scented with what? Phan still needs oiled a ton…"

"It's something I've always wanted to do, own a business I mean." Tsenik says with a smile, "I love bringing smiles to everyone, flowers brighten anyone's day up and I love being a part of that." Tsenik glances at the firelizards, "I don't have one of my own, I figure they're too much trouble. And the oil is scented differently. Some are kinda flower-y smelling, while others smell like spices or the forest, or other different smells."

Areia nods. "Flowers are nice." She agrees. "Oh, don't Impress. They're a pain in the rear, especially two of them. I can't tell you how many times I've pulled them apart, and Phan is less than a month old!" She sends another glare upwards before focusing on Tsenik again. "That sounds nice. Better than the fish oil the headwoman gave me, at least."

Tsenik pushes himself to his feet and runs a hand through his hair "Well, time to go make money." he downs the rest of his drink and then heads out.
