The Way of the Dart

Half Moon Bay Weyr - Rec Cavern

This large cavern is painted a pleasant shade of pale blue-green, with purple highlights along borders. The weyr's badge is featured in a twin tapestries hanging on either side of the entry. Directly inside the doors and to the right is an area with bookshelves and a long computer desk for the public computer. Several chairs line the desk so that people waiting for the computer may pursue other studies. To the left of the entrance is a sitting area with a chess set built into a table.

Along the wall to the left is a bar, set up against the storage closet. Tall metal chairs with bright purple and blue-green cushions line the bar; beside the bar is a pair of gambling machines. Prior to recent renovations, the bar was set up on the other side of the room in front of a huge mirror inset into the wall. Now that mirror is behind a slightly elevated stage featuring a piano recently built by the Harper Hall and transported to the islands. Several music stands and musician's chairs are stacked against the wall, for use when Harpers or weyrfolk desire to perform.

Along the wall opposite the entrance are dart boards, each with a set of couches and chairs nearby for relaxation between turns. And all throughout the room are sitting areas with similarly constructed couches and chairs, all featuring blue-green or purple fabric. Short, darkly stained wooden tables are centered inside each sitting area, for games, food, drinks, and whatever else weyrfolk need. Near the center of the room is a large, long table useable both for crafty pursuits or table tennis, and interspersed throughout the room are card tables with wooden, cushioned chairs.

It's a few days after Idrissa was here, and look here she is again. Her job takes her all over Pern, so there was a chance she would come back to the same place now and then. She glances around as she wanders into the room, well this is a first time she's been here and she's visited this Weyr rather often in the past.

Daranyl is flopped back on one of the couches, his chest rising in the comfortable easy rise and fall of sleep, his crossbow cradled against his chest. This is one of those moments when all the gruff, rough-and-tumble that usually creases his face is smoothed away and his youth shows through. He's clearly been snoozing a while as the metal of the crossbow has dug a slight furrow in the bare flesh of his chest, but still he sleeps on.

Idrissa pauses as she catches sight of one sleeping form upon the couch. She tilts her head looking a bit amused before looking over the place. well, this is an rather interesting place for him to take a nap. She isn't going to go and poke him or anything mind you, but she does wander over the dart boards and picks up a set of darts meaning to play a game it would seem.

Daranyl shifts slightly, clutching the crossbow all the tighter as he rolls up onto his side. Shimmy, shimmy go his shoulders, settling his head comfortably on the arm of the couch. His head turns slightly at the sound of someone nearby, but it's not enough to wake him. Instead, his brow furrows slightly and a tiny whimper issues forth, his arms tightening around the crossbow.

Idrissa goes about letting one of the darts fly at the board, it doesn't get near the bullseye though, which isn't a surprize with her. THough she doesn't give up, another dart is sent flying and this one gets a bit closer really. Yet she stops hearing something and sends a glance over to Daranyl once more. She looks a bit confused, perhaps even worried before she clears her throat a touch. "Daranyl..?" Is questioned with a unsure tone, not to sure if she should honestly wake him or not.

Daranyl startles awake at the sound of the dart hitting the board dropping the crossbow (and himself) across the floor next to the couch with a clatter of metal and wood and a distinctly surprised yelp from the hunter just before he spins up to a crouch almost automatically, his gaze scanning for whatever shocked him out of his sleep.

Idrissa blinks while watching as he scrambles around and is quiet for a moment before slowly moving on over to pick up the fallen crossbow and set it on the couch. "Uh.. Hey… You alright there?"

Daranyl's gaze darts around the room, then locks on the crossbow as she moves it to the couch. There's a moment where it's clear his brain has stalled out while processing. No one's trying to kill him and no one needs to be killed. ERROR, bad path. REBOOT! Then he coughs softly, trying to force himself to relax, and murmurs a quiet, "Yeah. T'anks."

Idrissa smiels a touch and nods. "Welcome." She offers while peering at him as if making sure before moving over to pick up the darts again. "Bad dream?"

A bit of a shadow crosses his face, then he manages to stand, flopping to sit on the couch again and start to check to make sure that the crossbow wasn't damage, "Li'le bit. Nothin' too serious."

Idrissa looks at the dart she has hold of a few moments while twirling it between her fingers as her mind wanders a moment. "Even little ones can cause issues." So states someone that seems to have plenty of bad dreams of her own. Though the dart is soon sent flying and slams into the board near the center.

Daranyl's shoulders lift and fall, not admitting anything. Once he's assured himself that the bow has come to no harm, he does, at least, look back up at her, only to shrug again, "'Snothin'. Yer no' bad a'tha'."

Idrissa smiles a bit and shrugs. "I'm alright at it honestly. To much free time I suppose." She goes to collect the darts and looks over to him offering the darts his way. "Want to give it a try?"

"Sure." Daranyl pushes to a stand, tilting his head to study the bored like some sort of foreign object, then takes a dart. He runs his fingers over its smooth surface, then eyes the board. He studies, then tries to imitate her motion. The dart flies in a straight arc and lands with a wooden thwack! burying itself into the wood beside the dartboard.

Idrissa nods and a slight smile is seen once he agrees to try. She lets him take hold of the darts and steps to the side so he can have at it. There is a pause once the first dart is tossed and she tilts her head slightly. She points to his hand. "You don't need to hold the dart so firm. Hold it like a pen when writing, just enought o hold onto it but not a lot of force."

Daranyl glances at her when she speaks, then back at his hand, picking up another dart, he tries to follow her instructions and, while his grip is lighter, if he's holding it like a pen, well, it's no pen Idrissa's ever written with before. And again the dart goes wide, though this time it at least hits the board and not the wall.

Idrissa looks a touch amused, a soft smile seen while she lifts her hand to lightly touch his to push his arm up a touch which will perhaps help get him more in a spot on the board then so near the wall. Well that was the thought she has on iat least. There is a pause and she glaneces over once someone calls out her name. "Sorry.." Is sent to Daraynl while a glance is sent to him. "I'll check back in with you another time on the dart game." With a wave seen she turns and moves off to speak with the other rider.

Daranyl glances after her, his expression oddly conflicted, then moves to snag up his crossbow, "T'anks 'gain." he glances at the other rider, then slips out past them into the Weyr.
