Meeting the Parents

Half Moon Bay Weyr - Tiki Lounge

As one walks onto the wood panelled flooring of the patio, they are greeted with the scent of burning oil, the likely source the various torches burning along the perimeter of the flooring. The flooring is littered with tables shaded with umbrellas, matching chairs tucked beneath when not in use.

The inside of the Tiki Lounge seems far bigger inside than outside, even when full of relaxing weyrfolk and travelers. Towards the front, in the western corner, is a small stage, generally occupied by harpers. Several tables with chairs decorate the floor and a small area is open for dancing. The bar is rather long and well stocked, glasses of different shapes and sizes hanging suspended from a rack above the bar. Behind the bar is another open window that gives one a view of the forest behind the tavern. Turning around, one is greeted by a lovely view of the lagoon. A decent breeze helps to cool the room. Up above, rafters provide a perch for fire lizards and local avians. The thatch roof, made of straw, rarely lets in any rain.

Hika and Cass have been scoping out Half Moon in their spare time. Why? Because their only daughter lives here and is likely to start having their grandbabies soon. Which means they might move here. There's not much to scope out at night though. Other than the Tiki Lounge, which is where they are. Hika has more or less dragged Cass along. The greenrider has the added benefit of being proddy! Which means she really needs a drink. Or something. Once she's dragged Cass inside, she heads to the bar to order them up some drinks.

Cassara follows Hika without much resistance, but is still clearly being lead around. Her sour face lightens a bit once they're in the tiki lounge. "Going to get carried away again?" Cassara grins at her weyrmate while grabbing herself a beer.

Sundari is already sitting at the counter sipping at some fruity drink of the looks of it, though nothing bad more like some virgin appleorange.. thing.. She is chewing on a fry that she plucked out from the plate before her. In all she seems a bit loss looking over a book that is open on the counter before her. At new voice she glances over curiously to see who all might be around.

Daranyl has a bit of dirt on him as he makes his way into the bar, well, more than a bit, but it's not much by Daranyl standards, and his crossbow, as ever, hangs from his shoulder. He glances around, then nods slightly to Sundari before moving up to the bar and ordering his usual tumbler of caustic, oil-drum whisky.

Hika looks up at Cass and laughs. "Maybe. Are you going to carry me away again? I feel bad leaving you as my designated flyer back home. And to look after me when I can't function." Hika orders a fruity drink for herself, picking it up and sipping at it before turning to scan the room. "Hm." She spots Daran, and his crossbow, and blinks. "What is he doing with a weapon in a crowded bar?"

"Yeah yeah, I'll try and take it easy. I like seeing you get hammered anyways." she sips her beer and looks over to Daran, her face souring again. "Don't know…" Cassara grumbles. She goes to find a booth for her and Hika, but keeps a suspicious eye on Daran.

Sundari offers a smile as she catches sight of Daranyl and waves towards him. She doesn't look worried about him being in the bar with the crossbow at the moment though. The voices of others are caught but she is soon back to looking into her book, folding the corner over and closes the book so she can pick it up later.

Daranyl nods to the tender as his drink is deposited, then turns, moving back to Sundari's table, giving it a slight nudge as he asks, "Mind if'n I join ya?" At this point, most of the Weyr is used to his constant armament, whether they accept it or not. He turns a brief look at the riders from out-Weyr, then turns back to Sundari, actually waiting for her assent before sitting.

Hika slides to the inside of the booth with her drink. Though she's keeping an eye on Daran. He didn't look like a guard. And now he's drinking! "Cass, he's drinking with that thing on his back! Go say something to him!" She urges in a hushed tone. That's right. She's making Cassara do her dirty work.

Cassara rolls her eyes a bit. "… That girl seems fine with it." she shrugs. "Do you really want me to start shit with some guy with a crossbow?" she sips her beer and shakes her head. She wasn't afraid to do it, but she knew her self and knew going over there had a good chance of causing a ruckus.

Sundari looks back to Daranyl and waves to him. "Sure, go on and have a seat. How goes it?" This questioned while she pushes the fries over to him once he is sitting and waves her hand to them. "Welcome to some if you like."

"Thank ya." Daranyl shifts the crossbow around and settles into a chair at Sundari's table, taking a sip off his drink and enjoying the burn all the way down before he glances at the fries. There's a moment of confusion, then he murmurs, "I… ah… wha' are they?"

Hika looks from Cass to Daran. Cass to Daran. "Fine then. But if he takes it off is back either you're going to say something or I will." Hika sits back and tries to forget about crossbow-guy and his date for the time being. She sips at her drink. "Did you figure out which side of the bowl you want our weyr to be on?"

"Look, if he does anything that bugs you, I'll give him a talking to. But I probably shouldn't go starting shit right away. Unless you want me to get a bad reputation this quickly." Cassara shrugs and leans back. "I dunno… what do you think? I'm still trying to get over the idea of moving."

Sundari hums softly and looks a touch amused. "Well.. There fried tubers.. Never had one before?" She questions with a curious tone. "They cut them into the thin sticks and then fry them."

Daranyl gives his head a slight shake, "Never." He glances up at Hika and Cass again, then turns his attention back to Sundari, "'Ve roasted 'em over th' fire, bu' never like this." He sips more of his booze, then leans forward to pluck one up, turning it this way and that before he pops it cautiously in his mouth and begins to chew.

Hika, thankfully, is no longer staring at Daranyl. Though she does keep glancing over at him, so they might make eye contact for a bit. And let's face it, she looks like an older version of Hotaru. Without the glasses or the cocky attitude. "Hm. Well, the eastern bowl does have a better view of the lagoon. And it should be dark most of the day. Though it's so humid here I don't know how much that will matter." She chuckles. "I thought you were set on it. We should try to make some friends before we move."

Cassara groans at the mention of humidity. "Ugh, the air here is awful. Yeah, I dunno if it'll help, but I'd definitely rather have the shade." She sips at her beer. "Yeah, I'm set on it, but I haven't you know, necessarily 'accepted' it yet in my head. Haven't given the details much thought."

Daranyl nods slightly at the flavor, finding it, apparently, pleasant enough, nodding to Sundari again as she exits before finally sliding the crossbow off his shoulder and leaning to set it on the table before taking another sip of his drink.

Hika sips at her drink and chuckles. "You'll get used to it. It's not like Igen ever gets cold, either. Hopefully the shady side is the cooler side." She grins up at Cass. "I'm hoping if we hang around here long enough you'll be used to it." Red alert! Daran has removed the crossbow! Hika nudges at Cass. "He took it off! Let's go over and at least see what his deal is, Cassy."

Cassara looks off a bit and frowns. "Ehh, you're probably right." She straigthens up a bit once she mentions Daran and wanting to go over there. "… Really? First you want me to grill him, now you want to go over and talk to him?" she gives a defeated sigh and starts to get up. "Well, whatever you say." She was never the social sort, but that never stopped Hika and she knew it wouldn't now.

Daranyl leans back in his chair, slowly relaxing as he sucks down more alcohol that might be mistaken for engine cleaner. His gaze flicks briefly to the women again, then back to his alcohol. Mmmm… relaxing.

RELAXATION IS OVER DARAN. "You go get us some more drinks, Cass. I'll handle this." Hika says. She's changed her mind! Also apparently is bossy when she's been drinking a little and is proddy. Or maybe she's just a little more reckless than usual. Once she's free she heads over to Daranyl's table. She holds the edge of it, and leans over a bit. "Hello. Yes. Hi. Hello. You don't look like a guard. So I'm wondering why you have this.." She points to the crossbow with her free hand. "… in here."

Daranyl's eyes pop open and he levels a cool, solid glare at Hika, pointedly lifting his glass for another sip, then setting it gently on the table-top, "'M a hunter. Don' like ta be withou' the tools a my trade." He scoots back in the chair, sitting up a little straighter, "Problem wi' tha'?"

Cassara watches her weyrmate go and tries to resist laughing. She goes to the bar to get there drinks and has to hold it in even harder as Hika starts opening her mouth. This poor kid. She had no desire to make it any better for him either. The large woman just comes up slowly behind him, looming over him with a dour face as her weyrmate proceeds to give him hell. She reaches past him with sinewy arms to give Hika here drink. "Yeah, we got a problem with that." she says coldly.

Hika doesn't look amused. "Do you find a lot of wild animals inside the bar? Or even inside the weyr for that matter?" She takes her drink, and takes a sip. "Her mother is a hunter, too. I can't remember her ever bringing a bow into the bar, though." Though, to be fair, Cassara's mother probably did. And Hika hasn't ever been to a bar with her, at least that she can recall.

Daranyl glances over at Cassara and juts his chin out, "Guess tha's too shardin' bad, then, innit?" He reaches for his glass and takes another sip "Well I do. Don' have my own room, wouldn' wanna young'n to get it outta my stuff, yeah?" His brows arch up, taking another sip in short succession.

Though also to be fair, her mom was also a bodyguard. Cassara just scoffs at his reaction. "No room? Well that sucks for you, but if you walk into a place carrying that you thing like you mean business then you shouldn't be surprised when people give you hell for it. Doing that is just asking to get your ass kicked, kid."

Hika frowns. "I just don't want your drunk ass showing off to… whoever that was you were chatting up earlier. Because that's how accidents happen and how people get killed. And my daughter frequents this place, and I don't want to find out her or her weyrmate had to take a trip to the infirmary because of a crossbow bolt. Because that tends to be a one-way trip."

"Like ta see ya try, sweetcheeks." Daranyl tips up the last of his drink and sets the drink down, snags the bow, and stands all in one smooth motion, "Yer daugh'er's a big girl, 'M no' drunk, I don' show off in th' pub, 'n' Sun'ari's jus' a frien'." Daranyl don' flirt. His bow settles back against his back, hanging from his shoulder again, "Never kilt a person 'n' don' 'spect ta be changin' tha' any time soon." Then he simply turns and lets himself out of the pub.

Cassaa just gives an unconvinced laugh at Daran's comment. "No, you really don't want to see me try, kid." though she lets him leave with no more comment. The cold woman simply glares at him as he makes his way out. When he's gone she turns to Hika and scowls. "I wanna bury that kid so bad right."

Hika slides in and wraps her arms around Cassara. "Don't waste your time, Cassy." She pulls the brownrider down to give her a kiss. "You want another drink? Or just to head home for some… stress relief?" She asks with a grin.

Cassara seems to cool off a bit and grins at Hika. "Oh? Yeah, I think I'm down with that." she squeezes Hika before picking her up and walking toward the door.
