We Meet Again; a quick chat in the LC

Winter - Day 1 of Month 12 of Turn 2714

Half Moon Bay Weyr - Living Cavern

Here is the center of Weyr life, the living caverns. These two main rooms were man-shaped from smaller caves, and are joined by a carved arch with depictions of dragons in flight and dolphins leaping in swirling waves. One room has many round stone and wooden tables and a stone fire-pit instead of a hearth. Over the round-walled, gas fired pit is a large conical hood made of polished bronze, with reliefs of dragons with their riders flying over ships guided by dolphins. This hood and chimney keeps the room smoke-free. Through the archway is an enormous hall, with long tables and benches, some carved from the rock floor, many crafted of wood. This room is a combination dining and meeting hall, and can seat over 300 comfortably. Above both rooms, angled shafts lined with polished metal bring in sunlight during the day. Electric lights also burn, day and night.

It is another warm 'winter' day at Half Moon Bay. A light drizzle provides some relief from the warmth this morning. Kelani sits at one of the tables eating breakfast while looking over some textbooks. The meal is half ignored as she focuses on making notes in her notepad as she reads through the text. She is dressed in plain clothes today of a sundress and sandles and her wild curly hairly drawn up into a busy pony tail.

Perhaps he is accustomed to the fake-winter weather that the tropical Weyr seems to be providing. At least, R'sner doesn't appear to be discomforted by the lack of cold, and he's dressed appropriately enough for the hot-and-humid; loose pants, loose shirt, sans jacket and sans knot. And yet, there are those boots that says hard work has either been had, or will be shortly. But right now, it is breakfast that he seeks. A tray. A plate. A glass of juice. Food. Once all of the above has been acquired, cobalt-blue eyes turn to assess the seating situation and finds it… dismal. Crowded already. And so he slides into the first seat at the first table that appears to have an occupant more focused on work than company. Congrats, Kelani. That's YOU! But at least he is quiet about settling himself down, doing his best not to disturb the healer at her work.

Yes Poor R'sner sitting across from the healer…studying healerly stuff. "So need to watch out for stretching and necrosis of the skin margins.." She murmurs to herself as she takes another bite of a sausage and makes more notes. The thud across from her is noticed and she looks up and smiles to see that familiar face. "Well good morning. Do you have another delivary here?"

A curious glance is given for the healer-y mumblings, but no inquiry comes. R'sner turns to his plate, quickly moving into 'eating' mode as his fork is employed and food is consumed. He's halfway through a bite when he's being addressed, blue eyes sliding her direction once more. A pause, a moment of silence as he finishes his bite, swallows, and puts his fork down. And while he may be recognized easily enough, it takes the greenrider a moment to place her face, dark eyebrows pulled together as he puzzles out where he may have met her. And then it clicks. "Oh, right. The healer…" and he turns his gaze back to his plate, stabbing at whatever breakfasty items he has there. "No," for the delivery. "I live here now." It's not curt, but it's not really… warm and fuzzy either. He lifts his free hand, moving as if to tap his shoulder only to be reminded that his knot is… not there. Hrm. Shrug.

"Kelani." She provides for the name with a light laugh when he calls her 'the healer'. "Oh you do? Well welcome to the weyr. Will you still be doing transport?" She asks conversationally as she leans back in her chair and at least has the mind to close the book with the pictures of burns in various states of healing. No doubt thats why the seat near her was vacant.

"Kelani." Her name is repeated easily enough, without real inflection. It is an attempt to memorize, to remember, even if R'sner's gaze goes right back to his plate as he spears a bit of something meaty. Her book is ignored, though the subject matter does not appear to disturb him; he sat here, afterall. Her 'welcome to the weyr' and continued attempts at conversation are met with a mildly puzzled look, and a brief glance of his blue eyes, though his head remains in that downward tip that indicates his attention is on his food more than her. "No. Well… some," he amends. "They've tapped me as Weyrlingmaster." Because there is no patch, to indicate as much. He hesitates, clears his throat briefly, and then attempts the social thing by offering, "When there aren't weyrlings to train, I intend to help with transport."

"Oh weyrlingmaster? Well I imagine we might have some soon. There was a gold flight a few sevendays ago so you came here just in time." Kelani responds and nods to the rest, "Well I will glad to see your green again, she was quite a darling." She continues before looking to something else to say in the silence between them before she just looks down to her food and continues her breakfast.

Another forkful of food vanishes into R'sner's mouth, though he glances in a polite-enough manner toward Kelani as she speaks. There's a flat look for her comment about the goldflight, and he swallows before he states, "That's why I'm here," to explain the connection. Gold. Eggs. Weyrlings. Weyrlingmaster. "Or why I got the knot, I suppose." A dismissive shrug and another glance down, a tightening of his jaw briefly before he puts another bite of food in his mouth and works at chewing it instead of glaring at his plate. But there's a nasal sound of something like amusement for the comment on his green. "Don't let her hear you say that," he warns. "She'd bite your head off."

Kelani can't help but smile at the last, "Oh she seemed nice enough." Well nicer than her rider! Kelani finally closes her notebook, "Well I am off to change for work. Welcome to the weyr again and good luck with the future weyrlings." Chipper in the face of mr dour. "I will see you around." No doubt. And so the teen gathers up her books and heads back down to the lower caverns.

"She's nice," agrees R'sner of his green. "But she's no 'darling'." As Kelani makes clear motions to vacate the table, and the living caverns, the greenrider simply turns back to his meal. There's a brief glance for when she's actually departing, and he manages to lift his fingers enough to acknowledge her departure in a sort-of 'bye' gesture, a quick, "Yeah," for seeing him around.
